Here in 1961(Shōwa 36), thanks to the administration of Anjo Gakuen Educational Foundation, we boast a women’s junior college (clothing department, department of lifestyle, and, starting next year, a home economics department) with an attached high school (a general course, a home economics course, a commerce course, and domestic science), and an attached junior high school and kindergarten. We count about 2,000 university students, primary and secondary students, kindergarteners, and also researchers from five kinds of educational organizations. Then at each educational organization, about one hundred authorized educators and general staff are appointed to promote our curriculum. In both structure and content, our foundation has become socially recognized as an integrated institution of women’s education.
Nevertheless, it was planned in 1962(Shōwa 37) that our school should take a step in the direction of boys’ education, so we established Okazaki Johsei High School in Hegoshi, Yahagi-cho, Okazaki City. At first, we recruited three hundred new students for the general course and then went on to develop it as a preparatory school for college education.
This was not only the result of a deep understanding and acceptance by Okazaki authorities of the history of Anjo Gakuen and its educational performance, but also the acknowledgment of numerous requests from people in various areas and meticulous mediation in every field. The purchase agreement of 20,000 tsubo(66,115.70m2) of farmland, the process of land development, and the borrowing of a temporary school building until the completion of our own school building (formerly Aichi Prefectural Silk Inspectorate in Myōdaiji-cho, Okazaki) was undertaken with alacrity and precision.
Although a prefectural high school was built on an about 10,000 tsubo(33,057.85m2) site, our school decided to acquire twice as much land as the public high school for future development.
We were planning to quickly establish a four-year specialized course university, no matter the consequence, and to gradually promote a coeducational integrated college. Our present school, as mentioned earlier, had begun as a small tutoring school. We had built the school buildings in succession, attaching and adding to the meager plot of land, in view of a development process which seems really disorganized owing to the difficulty of annexing the surrounding real estate.
