In November 1917(Taishō 6), we changed the school’s name to Anjo Girls’ Vocational School and at the same time, decided to establish a normal course. To prepare students for the provisional certification exams of assistant teacherships within a year, we had to offer training in all subjects. Successful candidates were given assistant teachership qualifications, and even the unsuccessful candidates were granted credits for passing individual subjects so that they could be exempted from those exams the following year.
After being at school for two years, they took the specialized sewing course examination to complete the sewing theory, practical sewing methods, and pedagogy. Meanwhile, the third-year students took the exam to be full-time teachers for ordinary elementary schools’ regular courses. This required them to pass the exams for three subjects: Education, Music, and Morals. As mentioned above, they took their provisional certification exams, passed them one by one, and entered service as schoolteachers.
